About the Project
Okinawa-born, American-raised singer Myrah Kay launches a revival project of composer Katsuhiko Miki's “The Manila” to build a bridge between Japan and the Philippines through music.

Myrah herself is half Filipino with a Filipino father, and it is said that there are more than 150,000 children in the Philippines whose fathers are unknown.
Through her musical activities, she hopes to support children in such disadvantaged circumstances.
Through this project, Myrah Kay hopes to build a bridge between Japan and the Philippines and to fund the strengthening of ties between the two countries through the power of music.
Children with roots in the Philippines have no place at home, at school, or in the community where they can live according to Filipino language, customs, and values.
However, the flexibility to accept foreign culture is one of the characteristics of children with Filipino roots.
Through music, we want to encourage such children to improve their self-esteem and social status.

What made you shacho-san of Manila?
Powerful Challenge
The Manila” is a delightful song inspired by composer Katsuhiko Miki's experiences while visiting the Philippines. Mairah hopes that a large-scale revival of this song will bring a cheerful mood to the Japanese people, and at the same time, encourage the participation of half-Filipino children in the song, thereby improving their social status.
What made you Shacho-san of Manila?
The song was composed by composer Katsuhiko Miki and lyrics were written by McCoy Saito. Katsuhiko Miki composed the song inspired by his visit to the Philippines, where he was called “Mr. President, Mr. President” at every karaoke club he went to. The subtitle, “Mr. President in Manila,” reflects an event that Katsuhiko Miki experienced during his stay in the Philippines.
Main Producer/Duke Fujino
Multi-producer Duke Fujino (Koji Fujino) will join Myrah Kay's “The Manila” revival project as the main producer.
As one of Japan's leading producers, Fujino is active in a wide range of fields including music, film, dance, and show production.
As the owner of “yukat no mori,” a store where live band performances can be enjoyed, he is also active in supporting musicians.
He recommended this song to Myrah Kay because he empathized with the brightness and positive message of the song “The Manila.” We agree with Myrah's vision to strengthen ties between Japan and the Philippines through the power of music, and will promote the project as a producer.
Composer/Katsuhiko Miki
Katsuhiko Miki, the composer of “The Manila,” has also promised to help Myrah Kay with her revival project.
She made her debut with “Transistor Sister.”
After working as a singer, he turned to composing. She became an idol singer with a series of many hit songs such as “Hana wa Osotaisita (The Flower is Late).”
After that, he turned to composing.
His best-known compositions include Sachiko Kobayashi's “Maybe PART II” (a duet album with Miki herself and Sachiko Kobayashi; the highest ranking song on the Oricon chart in the same year was 11. The highest Oricon ranking for the same year was No. 11, and the annual ranking for the same year was No. 60. It also won the Gold Prize at the 26th Japan Record Awards later that year).
Other songs include Joji Yamamoto's “Hana Dyed” and Kiyoshi Nakajo's “I Won't Cry.
He is also active as an actor, appearing in 80 films, including “Mysterious Meeting,” “A Tale of Two Privates,” “Zenigata Heiji,” and others.

Mr. Takahashi is an important link between Myrah and producer Duke Fujino. Ms. Takahashi herself has been close to the sentiments of the Filipino people living in Japan.

New Arrangement Production Process
We are looking for new arrangers on a large scale.
A competition website will be used to recruit arrangers, opening the door to a wide range of talent.
Composer Katsuhiko Miki will be involved in the selection of the music gathered and will bring his extensive experience and aesthetic eye to the project.
The best selected arrangements will be combined with Myrah Kay's voice to complete the new “The Manila”.
Beginning with an open call for arrangers, followed by Katsuhiko Miki's supervision, and then the recording of Myrah Kay's voice, “The Manila” will evolve into a song with a new brilliance.
Back Dancer Audition
Backup dancers are needed.
Auditions will be held for dancers and chorus members.
Those selected through auditions will be asked to participate in the production of the newly arranged “The Manila” soundtrack, music video shooting, and live performances.
In the process, this will be a rare opportunity to receive direct instruction from professional artists and dancers.
Those who are considered promising dancers and singers will be given the chance to make their solo debut and be selected for other projects.
We hope that this project will provide an opportunity to nurture many budding talents.
Open call for Filipino choreographers
For “The Manila” Revival Project, we plan to ask Filipino choreographers to choreograph the dances.
There are many excellent choreographers in the Philippines, and by utilizing their creativity and skills, we expect to create original choreography that everyone can enjoy dancing to.
Through an open call for choreographers, we will invite Filipino dancers to participate in this project, aiming to create choreography that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, regardless of their dance experience.
We have high expectations for the ideas and concepts that only Filipino choreographers can come up with.
Maira herself, as someone who knows the beauty of dance, wants to share the appeal of Filipino dancers with the world.
We hope that the performance of “The Manila,” which combines music and dance, will represent a new form of cultural exchange between Japan and the Philippines.

Myrah Kay's “The Manila” Revival Project is now underway.
